Day 5: be brief

I stumble upon a random note on my path today.

This note was anything but random.  So specific in its desired intentions.  Yet found crumpled, disgaurded. Placed in my pocket to read later. Today, my dog pulled me home urgently.

Home once again – I open it.  This note with so few words left me utterly breathless.

The words keep pounding through my head….coming to the forefront of all my thoughts.

I can’t take this pain one more day I have nothing to live for.
Tonight is the night I’ll take my life.
I have a plan now.
This day is my last. – J. D.

With tearful eyes I place the note in my pocket.  Could this person be found? Are they alive today?  Did I find this note to late?

Depression is truly a thief in the night taking loved ones away from us.  The note was tossed away like his or her life might have been already… I’m stuck.  Standing in my kitchen conflicted.

*Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.

My heart goes out to anyone who has lost someone this way.  I’m raising money right now for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).  I’m walking  with a team on May 30th to help keep support groups open, stomp out stigma, and raise awareness!  If your interested in donating and/or reading my story.  I’ll post a link.
